It’s no secret that one of my all time favourite horror writers is Stephen King and this story kept putting me in mind of King and I found myself drawing comparisons, both in writing style and in sheer craftsmanship. There were moments when I was able to guess what was going to happen but overall I found the plot to be well structured and not predictable. This can be a little confusing when you start reading and are trying to get to grips with who everyone is and what they are like but it’s worth pushing on with as once you’ve got the characters down pat it’s a fascinating and engaging story. The plot is well constructed, though the story is told through short chapters that tend to jump about a bit, with different characters etc. The character development in this story is well paced and believable, with no sudden out of character moments or shifts. There is a lot going on and these events take place against a very real and atmospheric setting with wonderful characters with depth and growth.
